Aussie acts flock to Distillery Road Market for new blues fest

Logan will next month host a new blues festival as part of a broader ambition to bring live entertainment to the city.

Blues on the Bayou, the second festival in a four-part series spanning different genres of music, is on 2 August at Distillery Road Market (DRM) in Eagleby.

More than one thousand people are expected to fill the venue on International Blues Day to watch a line up that includes First Nations artist Buddy Knox – known as “Australia’s answer to BB King ” – who will open the festival with a solo acoustic blues set.

He will be followed by local musicians Dillion James, JB’s Blues Breakers, and 8 Ball Aitken, who will be joined on stage by Sydney based singer-songwriter Taya Chani.

Other interstate artists to take to the stage will be Minnie Marks, Owen Campbell, and James Southwell.

The first festival in the DRM series was reggae-themed and held last month, showcasing the likes of Queensland bands Fat Picnic, District Dub City, Kingfisha, Bradamon and others.

Next on the agenda is an indie festival scheduled for 4 October, followed by a country festival on 17 January next year.

Each festival will be open for free pre-registration, and host audiences up to 1500.

DRM has announced the festival series will be held annually in addition to the venue’s regular weekly live music schedule.

“At DRM we want to create experiences that everyone can be part of, and music has a way of bringing people together,” DRM founder Kenton Campbell said.

“These genre-themed festivals are about more than just great lineups, they’re about celebrating culture, connection and community.

“Logan locals and south-east Queensland residents deserve big, brilliant music events.

“We’re proud to be able to offer them at no cost, right here at DRM, half-way between Gold Coast and Brisbane.”
