Officeworks will this week open a new store in Logan, more than a year after the reopening of its Underwood store which was destroyed in a fire that remains unsolved.
A new premises at Beenleigh, opening on Wednesday 11 June, will mark Officeworks’ fourth store in the city, with others already at Loganholme, Browns Plains and Underwood.
The office supply retailer hasn’t had the easiest run in Logan, with its store at Underwood needing to be rebuilt after it was burned down during a mystery fire in August 2022.
Fourteen fire trucks were needed to control the blaze, which was lit while staff and customers were still inside.
No one was injured, but the store and adjoining buildings couldn’t be saved.
Police on Friday confirmed there were no updates to the case, and police investigations were ongoing.
The Underwood Officeworks was completely rebuilt in the same location, but made 49sqm larger, in late 2023.
At the time, the store’s reopening saw jobs handed to 44 locals – including seven staff from the original store.
The new Beenleigh shop is set to do the same, with more than 40 new recruits already hired to man the store.
Store business manager Cameron McGhie, who has previously worked at the Browns Plains store, said he was counting down the days to the opening.
“It’s been incredible to see the interest and excitement from the community already – even
with just our blue wall up, locals have been stopping by to check out the site,” he said.
“We can’t wait to officially open the doors and welcome everyone in to experience the new store.”
The new store will feature a same-day printing machine, offering instant printing for business cards, flyers, invitations and more, which will fill a “critical gap for fast-turnaround print services in the area”.
It will also include an early learning section with toys, tools and stationery, a dedicated arts section, and a business-focused layout.
