Suburban growth prompts accelerated funding

THE State Government is set to unlock $30 million to fast-track development of more than 3500 housing lots in Yarrabilba and Bahrs Scrub.

Half of the money, with Lendlease co-investing $9.8 million, would open the way for the next phase of development in Yarrabilba, increasing land supply and enabling planning to commence for community and health services.

In Bahrs Scrub, roadworks would accelerate the development of 1780 dwellings and a retail centre.

“Construction including earthworks, water, sewer, electrical and communications mains, streetscaping and roadworks, will support around 100 jobs, pave the way for the site of Yarrabilba primary school and is expected to unlock access to over 2000 affordable residential lots,” deputy premier Steven Miles said last week.

“A further $15 million in funding will support construction of the Bahrs Scrub Roadworks Project, to improve access, safety and transport efficiency through Bahrs Scrub.

“The area is experiencing rapid growth from Frasers Property’s Brookhaven master-planned community and other surrounding communities.”

In addition, a new state infrastructure strategy is putting developing suburbs at the forefront of government planning.

The state government has set up teams to facilitate partnerships between developers, local government, utility providers and the state.

“The team will consider challenges affecting land supply, housing choice and affordability, land fragmentation, progressing development applications and facilitating essential urban infrastructure,” Mr Miles said.

Money for the Yarrabilba and Bahrs Scrub projects would come from the Building Acceleration Fund.

Meanwhile, families in Bahrs Scrub and neighbouring suburbs will have a dedicated school bus service to their closest
state school, Edens Landing State School, from this week.

The state government is partnering with Logan Coaches to deliver the service.

Dozens of Edens Landing State School students will be able to tap into the School Transport Assistance Scheme (STAS) which helps parents of eligible students to transport their children to and from school.

“From what families have told me, we know there are a great number of families that will benefit from this service in the short and long term,” Member for Macalister Melissa McMahon said.

“Logan Coaches has developed a proposed route and stops for the service based on a number of factors, including where the registered students live and what is easily accessible.

“TransLink and Logan Coaches will continue to monitor the route and stops as more students register, and adjust as necessary to deliver the best possible service for everyone.”

Run 41 will leave from 679 Waterford Tamborine Road at 7.50am each weekday, travelling along Jarvis, Buccan, Honeyeater, Brookhaven and Goundry Roads and arriving at Edens Landing State School by 8.30am. It will depart the school at 3pm with the last stop at 3.45pm.
