Bush poets set to entertain at Beenleigh Show

Lovers of storytelling and verse will have plenty to enjoy at the Beenleigh Show on 8 March, where a lineup of bush poets is set to take the stage.

Performances will kick off at 10am and will run on the hour until 2pm at the Phoenix Ensemble Theatre, offering a mix of humour, emotion, and classic bush poetry.

The event will feature poets from Logan, Ipswich, and as far south as Kyogle, bringing together a diverse range of talent.

Among those performing is Tony Caswell, a versatile poet known for his ability to ‘Rap’ and ‘Slam’ as well as his extensive repertoire of traditional bush poetry.

With a background that spans from working as a boilermaker in a male-dominated industry to later becoming a nurse, Mr Caswell’s poetry reflects his varied life experiences, often delivered with a sharp sense of humour.

Joining him is Dave Elson, widely recognised as the ‘Bee Man.’

A well-known local, Mr Elson manages bee hives across Queensland, often using his long drives between locations to compose poetry.

A founding member of the Logan Performance Bush Poets, Mr Elson has been part of the group since its inception 11 years ago.

His diverse career has included time as a police officer, running a mowing business, and even raising racing pigeons and greyhounds.

Mr Elson will also be selling his locally produced honey at the event, giving attendees a chance to enjoy both his poetry and his beekeeping expertise.

Those looking for an engaging and lively experience are encouraged to head to the Phoenix Ensemble Theatre and catch a performance.
