Officials are expecting construction of major upgrades to Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road to start this month.
While works were initially anticipated to start last year, the Department of Transport and Main Roads now expect the will roadworks begin in the coming weeks
The $20 million project will duplicate the road, from two lanes each way to four, between Mount Warren Boulevard and Tallagandra Road at Mount Warren Park.
It is hoped the improvements will increase traffic flow, reduce congestion and lower likelihood of crashes.
The project will also include upgrading footpaths and shared paths, adding on-road bike lanes and a noise barrier, and improving drainage along the stretch of road to reduce flooding.
South Coast Acting Regional Director for Transport and Main Roads, Gavin Massingham said the road was a strategic link between Beaudesert and Beenleigh, through to the Pacific Motorway via Milne Street.
“This upgrade will deliver significant benefits for local motorists, but none more important than a safer journey,” he said.
“Pedestrian safety will also be improved as we deliver better pathways and new on-road cycle lanes for bike riders.
“This road upgrade will improve road efficiency and increase safety in the Mount Warren and Beenleigh area.
“We would like to thank road users and the local community for their patience during these works”.
More to come.
