Australia Day Awards nominations open

Nominations for the 2025 City of Logan Australia Day Awards have opened.

The awards celebrate the achievements and contributions of extraordinary Logan citizens, and sees the city’s Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year crowned.

Local council said the awards were presented to individuals who had made a “significant contribution to the local community over a number of years and towards creating a better city”.

This year, 83-year-old Margaret Harvey and 18-year-old Elahi Elahi were named Logan’s citizens of the year.

Ms Harvey was awarded 2024 Citizen of the Year for her “unconditional support and service” to struggling Logan residents, including 14-years of service through the Logan branch of not-for-profit Rosies and its ‘Friends on the Street’ program.

The city’s Young Citizen of the Year, Ms Elahi, had been involved with volunteering and advocacy since she was 11.

The Marsden resident juggled high school and two jobs while volunteering for Hummingbird House, Redkite, and Youth off the Streets.

Nominations for the 2025 awards close on Tuesday 26 November.
