Stable serenity for sale

Kathy Ralph bought 41 Minehan Road at Logan Village around two decades ago as space for her beloved horses.

Now there’s only one left – a 28-year-old thoroughbred named Lulu.

Ms Ralph said she was looking to downsize, so she put her 2ha property on the market and is moving to a 1ha property in the same suburb.

“It’s a bit bittersweet for me to be selling, but I’m of the age where I’m looking to downsize – this place has a lot of stairs in it,” she said.

“I bought a smaller house on 1ha – I’m not going anywhere without my horse.

“She’s a thoroughbred, but she has never raced, she’s a carrot-aholic.”

Ms Ralph said she had put a lot of work into developing the property over the last 20 years.

“It’s really grown from bush to beautiful,” she said.

“It was all bush, apart from just around the house, but I could see the potential.

“We cleared it so now we’ve got seven paddocks.”

The property also features an inground pool surrounded by a tropical garden, ponds and a dam, a custom-built chicken coup, aviaries and a large stable with a built-in kitchen.

She said there was potential for more.

“I built a stable so if someone doesn’t have horses, they just want the lifestyle, they can easily turn it into a three-door shed,” Ms Ralph said.

“Do what you like with it… and for people who’ve got horses, it’s only a kilometre up to the pony club.

“And I’ve got four aviaries – one I’ve emptied out, but I’m happy to leave them if someone wants them – if not I’ll take all the birds with me.”

Her five-bedroom, three-bathroom home has also undergone renovations.

“I’ve updated it all inside,” she said.

“I’ve got three bathrooms that have all been updated, the kitchen has been updated, I put in all the doors that open to the deck, and I’ve increased the size of the deck.”

The house is spread across four levels, with multiple living areas and a “huge” office, meaning there is plenty of room for a large family or gathering.

A timber deck wraps around the rear of the property and overlooks the pool.

Mr Ralph said she would miss the property’s “ambience”.

“It’s a sanctuary – it’s quiet, peaceful, with birds and trees,” she said.

“Everyone who comes, all my friends, say it’s a sanctuary and they love to sit in the peace.

“When they come, they all stick around, because most of them have to go back to suburbia.”
