Schools and education centres across Logan, including Harmony Early Learning Journey at Yarrabilba and St Paul’s School at Woodridge, have won grants up to $1000 each to support outdoor learning projects.
The grants are co-funded by environment not-for-profit Landcare Australia and Woolworths.
The supermarket chain’s Logan City manager Danny Baldwin said it was great to see Logan schools receive the funding.
“There’s lots of creative ideas that’ll get students outdoors and hands-on with nature,” he said.
“We’re looking forward to seeing these ideas come to life in the next few months.”
The grants can be used for new or existing projects, such as sustainable food production, improving waste management practices or enhancing native habitats.
Landcare Australia CEO Dr Shane Norrish said the grants were about “bringing sustainability into classrooms” across Queensland.
“… and teaching children how to care for the environment around them,” he said.
“Thanks to Woolworths hundreds of Queensland schools have been able to further support environmental champions and support Logan City students to develop hands-on skills that they can take with them when they leave school.”
