Business networking group with a difference

A group of businesspeople from Springwood area has started its own “real business connections networking group”.

Those behind the group claim it’s business networking with a difference in that it aims to look for one representative of each business discipline, profession or trade to join the group – one accountant, one lawyer etc.

Property agent Michael Wardlaw said the group would meet every fortnight for breakfast at Meadowbrook Golf Club, from 7am-8.30am.

The group is offering businesses an opportunity to attend two breakfast meetings before committing to become a full-time member of the group.

It’s a valuable way to learn from the success of others, attain new clients and tell others about your business, Mr Wardlaw said.

“Referrals are normally quality and often pre-qualified,” he said. “You can follow up and turn into sales.”

He said the saying, “it’s not what you know but who you know”, was so true.

“To have a successful business, you need a great source of relevant connections,” he said.

“Being visible and getting noticed is a benefit to networking.  By attending meetings and social events you are ensuring you build your reputation as being reliable and supportive. You get to know us as we get to know you.

“It’s important to surround yourself with positive, uplifting people.  This helps you to grow and thrive as a business owner.  Networking helps build communication skills.  Your increased confidence will see your business grow.”

Mr Wardlaw said networking could help find answers to a business issue.

“This helps to strengthen the group and if the group is strong so are we as business owners,” he said.

“Networking is not just about exchanging business cards.  It is most valuable when long-lasting, mutually beneficial relationships are formed.”
