An ambulance crew rushing to help an unconscious patient was forced to flee after allegedly being terrorised by a dangerous driver on 28 February.
Paramedics fled to a nearby police station after a car allegedly began racing them, “repeatedly veered towards them” and the occupants allegedly pulled out a gun.
The car, a Toyota Kluger, was first reported stolen from a North Road, Woodridge address on Tuesday 27 February.
The next day, the car was seen driving dangerously along the Gateway Motorway at Belmont.
Later that day, at around 7pm, while paramedics were responding to a patient at Capalaba who had collapsed and was unconscious, a dramatic series of events unfolded.
“[Paramedics] observed a vehicle driving dangerously, specifically swerving towards them and trying to race them,” Brisbane Assistant Commissioner Tony Armstrong said.
“They also allegedly observed what they believed to be a laser pointer and a weapon pointed towards them, so they obviously had a genuine fear for their safety.
“And as a result of that, they diverted from the case they were responding to and then went to the closest police station.”
Mr Armstrong said the ambulance crew “made the right decision” in fleeing the scene, and there were no negative impacts on the patient as a result.
“This alleged act of aggression towards our staff simply can’t be tolerated and it’s disgusting,” he said.
“Not only has it placed our staff safety at risk but also the safety of the community in general.
“Fortunately our staff weren’t injured, but as you can appreciate an incident like this has left them quite shaken.”
The Toyota was spotted parked on Priestdale Road at Rochedale South at around 7pm.
Police officers arrived shortly afterwards and apprehended a female passenger.
Officers located a man, alleged to have been the driver, nearby following further patrols.
The 34-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, injuring a police dog, obstruct police, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, using false plates.
He was refused police bail and is due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court today, February 29.
The 29-year-old Waterford West woman has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
She is due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on March 27.
