Governor praises Logan’s “enormous” tornado recovery efforts

Queensland governor Jeannette Young has praised those involved in Logan’s exhaustive storm recovery efforts.

Almost 200 volunteers, local organisations and council staff have spent weeks cleaning storm debris from more than 500 local streets, particularly in Jimboomba and surrounding suburbs.

They have also cooked meals and provided advice to struggling locals.

“This is a brilliant example of community and Council working together, which I know is what underpins the Logan region’s enormous strength and resilience,” Dr Young said.

Mayor Darren Power agreed, but acknowledged recovery efforts are not yet over.

“We know this clean-up isn’t anywhere near completed and we’ve had arduous conditions the whole way through,” Cr Power said.

“On top of the physical clean-up of tonnes of trees and other vegetation, the loss of power, the stifling humidity and financial stress has meant some tough days for many people.

“But our city has always been resilient and I’ve seen people power shine through on even the darkest days.”
