Park Ridge State School has unveiled its latest jewel – a cutting-edge administration building hailed as the ‘best new space since 1895″.
The new building was specially designed to accommodate all accessibility needs.
School administration was previously located up two flights of stairs in a traditional weatherboard building.
This required prams to be left downstairs, while grandparents struggled and those with a disability couldn’t access the office.
Last week school principal Stephen Rowe and P&C president Emily Underwood officially opened the new admin building, and were joined by state member for Logan Linus Power, who helped secure State funding for the $7.4 million project.
Park Ridge State School first opened in 1895, and Mr Power said the new building would help the school educate students for another 128 years.
“I worked with the P&C to advocate for a new one level modern amin building so that everyone has easy access,” Mr Power said.
“Every time we see a mum or dad go straight into reception with a younger sibling in a pram, we will be reminded about how worthwhile this investment is.
“Park Ridge is a great older school with great character – the new spaces make it even better – the Park Ridge Community deserves the best.
“I want to thank the advocacy of the past principal Peter James, the P&C, and especially past councillor Cherie Daley for working together to make the case for this new building for Park Ridge.”
