Support for everyone in our city

As a Council, we have a goal for the City of Logan to be accessible and inclusive and a place where everyone is welcome.

We are committed to making sure that people of all abilities can access Council facilities and programs and engage in community life.

Our Disability Action Plan 2023-2025 has more than 100 actions to help us improve access and inclusion for people with disability in Logan over the next couple of years.

It builds on our previous Access and Inclusion Plan 2019-2022, which achieved 83 out of the 84 planned actions, and an additional 11 actions.

That demonstrates how Logan is one of the most progressive cities in Australia.

For example, our website (logan.qld.gov.au) is fully accessible and is Level AA in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, which makes it easier for people to get information about us.

We also make sure we consider accessibility requirements when we plan Council events.

For example, we have hearing loops at Council facilities, an adult change facility at the Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct, and a lifting swing in the change room at Beenleigh pool.

But we can’t rest on our laurels.

There is always more to do.

Council recently gave its support to a request to upgrade the toilet facilities at Greenbank’s Middle Green Sports Club to ensure they comply with current accessibility standards.

We know there are more toilet facilities at community venues around the city that will need to be upgraded, but we need to start somewhere.

We are also committed to helping people with disability plan for disasters and emergencies in our city.

Over the coming months, we are hosting free workshops for  local residents and their carers so they can identify their health and safety needs if the unexpected happens in Logan.

Everyone should feel supported and empowered to be prepared for a disaster.

The Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness workshops are presented by people with disability and will also include service providers and emergency managers.

The workshops are in Beenleigh, Kingston, Yarrabilba, Loganlea, Springwood and Hillcrest between October and March.

Registrations are essential.
