Logan birthing suite upgrade – Hon. Cameron Dick

Logan Hospital’s new Birthing Suites opened last month providing local mothers more birthing options and services closer to home.

The new services are part of the Palaszczuk Government’s more than $1 billion investment in the hospital to provide significantly increased capacity and modern facilities for the growing Logan community.

The number of Birthing Suites has increased to 12, with eight new birthing pools also installed.

The upgrade to the Birthing Suites provides the state-of-the-art facilities our community needs by ensuring families in our growing region have the best possible care available to them locally.

When I was Health Minister, the Logan Hospital Expansion was announced and through that process we consulted mums and families about what they wanted.

Mums and families said they were happy with the high-level maternity care at the Logan Hospital but they wanted more options around birthing services.

The upgraded Birthing Suites delivers just that, with eight of the 12 birthing suites having birthing pools.

In addition, for the first time, there will be enough room in the new 12 suites for partners to rest, which will be great for families.

Looking ahead, design has already begun on the $530 million Logan Hospital Stage 2 Expansion Project, with a managing contractor now appointed and early works set to start in early 2024.

Stage 2 will provide even more beds – 112 across four new wards – in a new clinical services building which will also feature new operating theatres, endoscopy and pharmacy departments.

This major expansion of Logan Hospital is part of the Queensland Government’s $9.785 billion capacity expansion program that will deliver about 2,220 additional overnight beds across the state over the next six years.
