Young artists ride the creative tide

The next exhibition round at Logan Art Gallery will feature the artworks of Logan’s most artistic high school students.

Titled ‘Artwaves 2023′, the exhibition will feature the works of 243 young artists from 28 local schools.

Woodridge State High School year nine student Feeza Abdul, 14, is participating in the Artwaves exhibition for the second time.

“I felt shocked. I didn’t expect my artwork to be chosen,” she said.

Her artwork, titled Two Sides of the Same Coin, was created as part of a series focused on identity and culture.

It depicts a person who is in two different universes, longing to be with the other.

The painting shows the character floating in a country landscape in one universe, and as a businesswoman in a city setting in the other.

Miss Abdul said she had always been passionate about drawing, with hopes to pursue fashion as a future career and to undertake further studying in that field.

This year’s annual exhibition is from Friday 8 September to Saturday 14 October.

Lifestyle Chair Councillor Tony Hall said it was wonderful to see local students’ talents.

“Artwaves highlights the creativity of the City of Logan’s next generation of local artists and recognises the role teachers and parents play to nurture their creativity,” Cr Hall said.

“I congratulate this year’s participants on their innovative and thought-provoking works.”

The schools represented in Artwaves 2023 are:
