Former mine and quarry workers who’ve retired to the Logan region are being urged to get a free lung health check to detect mine dust lung disease.
Workers are entitled to a check every five years. Cases are on the rise.
“Mine dust lung diseases can develop many years after workers retire from the industry, so ongoing checks are important,” Resources Safety and Health Queensland executive director Dean Barr said.
“The checks include chest X-ray and spirometry, and when required, other follow-up investigations such as high-resolution CT scans.
