Poem: Does it really matter

The literary experts say that rhyming endings matter
A friend ignored this once and judges just would not look at her
Of course, i’ve heard some poems where a word that suits is rude
They substitute and so avoid the risk of seeming crude

My late and great mate Jim was one who used this trick a bit
Especially in his tale about the truck that carted….night soil
And then there’s such a thing as blank verse, maybe that’s all right
When it’s hard to find a word that does rhyme, I wish I could use one that doesn’t

On a completely the same subject, how does this joke sound
You take a well known saying and then you turn it around
You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink
becomes, you can lead a horticulture but you can’t make it think
Yes, there’s a lot of dif’rent ways to liven up out chatter
You don’t get very far without a little hum’rous patter
And though our strait laced pollies never joke- except Bob Katter
We’re only in it for the fun, so, does it really matter?
