Parents Kelly and Clayton Lotz will do whatever it takes to improve life for their son Chase, who sufferers from cystic fibrosis.
The couple have worked hard to raise money and awareness to fight the disease and will now appear on a second season of travel show Adventure All Stars.
Cast members on the show raise money for an Australian charity in return for an all-expenses-paid adventure.
Mr and Mrs Lotz heard about the TV show through Cystic Fibrosis Queensland, the charity they raised money for last year.
This year, the Lotz family raised around $15,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Australia.
“The adventure show is one thing and it’s fantastic to be involved in that but [the cause] is ultimately just close to our hearts,” Mrs Lotz said.
“We do what we can to raise awareness and raise money and educate.”
Their self-described adventurous spirit is also a driving force in their lives, Mrs Lotz said.
The family spend a lot of time travelling in their caravan.
“Our love of adventure has probably stemmed from Chase’s diagnosis,” she said.
“Since Chase has come along, we’ve got a completely different view of life.
“We want to show the kids Australia and adventures and experiences, and we never know what tomorrow is going to bring – especially with cystic fibrosis.”
Mrs Lotz said Adventure All Stars was the perfect show for them, mostly because it’s a combination of adventure and fundraising.
But their good work isn’t limited to the TV screen.
Behind the scenes, the couple frequently fundraise for Variety Children’s Charity.
Mrs Lotz said they’ve contributed around $60,000 dollars since they began raising money for charities.
She said balancing work, school and charity fundraising was tough.
“There’s no balance,” she said.
“It can be pretty tough [but] it’s a priority for us.”
She said philanthropy and travel were the family’s purpose.
Mr and Mrs Lotz headed to Vanuatu on April 28 to film the upcoming season of Adventure All Stars.
They said this wouldn’t be their last adventure with the show, and they would continue to fundraise and travel with their family.
