Milo recalls humble Logan beginnings

From a boy skating the streets of Beenleigh to a celebrity on the TV screen, the man known as ‘Milo’ hasn’t lost his Logan charm.

Starring on the Network 10 series Gogglebox, Milo earned his nickname by constantly wearing a Milo branded t-shirt in his youth.

He grew up in Mount Warren Park, attended Beenleigh State High School and worked at Beenleigh Marketplace for ten years.

“I’ve got some great memories,” Milo said.

“And I’ve got some not-so-great memories.”

He recalled his childhood in Logan, which is where he found his passion for skateboarding.

“I learned to skate there – I remember skating the streets,” he said.

“That was my little niche.”

Milo said the local skate competitions were among his favourite memories, as well as some of the fun times he had at school.

“I met some of my friends for life there,” Milo said.

He ultimately decided to move down south to pursue his second passion: surfing.

It was while he was managing a surf shop on the Gold Coast that he was poached for Gogglebox.

“They were looking for a couple of young surfy guys,” he said.

“Obviously I surf, but I’m not necessarily young.”

Milo initially rejected the offer, but was convinced otherwise by his housemate, and soon-to-be co-star, Nic.

“I was living with Nic at the time, and he convinced me to do it,” Milo said.

“It wasn’t something I applied for or anything like that.

“We were lucky – it fell into our lap.”

Milo said although finding fame was “initially weird”, it became a “refreshing feeling”.

He said it was always a surprise to see people relate to him.

“We’re just ourselves,” he said.

“People will approach you and tell you how much they love the show.

“People notice you and ask for a photo – it’s been fantastic.”

In his third year participating in the show, Milo said he was still enjoying himself.

“I get to sit on the couch with my best mate and have a few beers and watch TV,” he said.

“And Nic gets a few hours away from the missus.”

He said he has no “aspirations to become a celebrity”, but would continue to work on the show.
