A GROUP of about 100 Logan residents has called on the state government to do more to give renters access to solar energy.
The event was hosted by the Queensland Community Alliance, a collective of community, faith and environmental groups.
“Last year we came together as a community and called for the state government to deliver a pathway for Queensland to repower with affordable renewable energy,” Anglican Parish of Logan rector Geoff Hoyte said.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the commitments that minister (Mick) de Brenni spoke about today coming to fruition to help Queenslanders tackle rising power bills.”
Solar Citizens deputy director Stephanie Gray said: “We’ve been doing a lot of listening to Logan residents and it’s clear that many people are struggling to keep up with rising power bills and the spiralling cost of living.
“We know that solar straight from the rooftop is the cheapest form of electricity, so it’s a no-brainer that the Queensland government should help.”
“We welcome the minister’s commitment to work on a solution for solar on rentals and social homes. We look forward to initiatives being rolled out as soon as possible.”
