Logan’s “Olympic” venue will carry legacy

Logan has a proud and decorated sporting heritage with several Olympic and Paralympic champions having honed their skills at sporting facilities across the city.

With the biggest sporting event in the world, the Olympic and Paralympic Games on our doorstep, it’s hard not to get caught up in the excitement and energy in the lead up to 2032.

It was great to hear the news last month that the Australian and Queensland governments will fund a major sporting venue in the city as part of the Olympics funding deal.

While it’s early days and we don’t know what the facility will look like or what specific sports it may suit, this sends a clear signal that Logan is at least on the Olympic map.

What we do know is this is no accident and through teamwork with other levels of government we have been able to achieve a great outcome for the city.

I’ve made no secret of my desire to secure a venue for Logan’s growing community and I’m grateful for our state and federal members who have supported Council’s vision.

This is a venue that will be a true legacy from Brisbane 2032.

A multi-purpose venue like this in the city delivers essential infrastructure that our growing city needs and deserves.

This kind of catalytic infrastructure unlocks development, provides long-term jobs, spurs further investment in the city and will help to build a stronger local economy.

It’s also legacy building and the venue will be used by future generations of sports-devoted Logan families long after the closing ceremony in 2032.
