Bannockburn to get new supermarket

Bannockburn will soon have a new multi-million dollar Woolworths.

The first sod was turned last week, and construction is expected to bring 80 jobs, with about 125 retail jobs when the neighbourhood shopping centre opens in 2021.

There will be about 4000 square metres of shopping space in the centre, including a full-line Woolworths Supermarket, online drive-through, pick up facility, BWS, cafe and health services.

There is likely to be a medical centre and gym.

A local artist will design a public art mural at the centre’s entrance.

Woolworths regional development manager Savanah Powell said: “This development will continue our strong record of economic contribution to Queensland, including in the Logan City Council area, and create more than 100 local jobs.

“The Woolworths Supermarket at the heart of the development will be designed as a neighbourhood food store providing a great shopping experience for our customers, good prices on products they want, a great fresh offer and the convenience they are looking for.

“We’re also investing in solar panels and rainwater harvesting to reduce the environmental impact of the centre’s operations. It will be a 4-Star Green Star development rated by the Green Building Council of Australia.”

Hutchinson Builders will manage construction.

“We look forward to welcoming customers into our store and will update the Bannockburn community on our timeline in the coming months,” Ms Powell said.
