Annual picnic for seniors

A special picnic for seniors is to be at Tygum Park tomorrow (Wednesday, October 26), from 10am until noon.

The Connect 4 Seniors Picnic will feature Dance for Parkinson’s Australia.

Director Erica Rose Jeffrey said Dance for Parkinson’s Australia began in 2013 and earlier this month launched two free pilot programs in Jimboomba’s Rotary Hall and Gould Adams Community Centre at Kingston.

Weekly dance classes are now held at both venues.

Dr Jeffrey said the dance classes are led by professional teachers and provide a creative activity and quality of life intervention for those with Parkinson’s disease.

She said the classes help improve mobility, balance, rhythm and flexibility in an enjoyable, social and communal environment.

Dance for Parkinson’s teaching artists will give a demonstration during the Connect 4 Seniors Picnic.

Other activities include a seniors and tiny tot ballet class, walking football, bingo, tai chi, giant games and a display of model boats.

There will be a free sausage sizzle and refreshments and participants will receive goodie bags.

Members of the Mums’n’Bubs Logan group will be attending to provide seniors in the community with the chance to connect with young mums and babies.
