Over the past 12 months, more than 7000 people have attended about 50 events under the banner of the city’s Active and Healthy program.
One of them is a fun ballet class at Loganholme’s Gerrard’s Performing Arts Centre, 4051 Pacific Highway. It’s every Monday night during school term, from 7pm until 7.45pm and suitable for those aged over 18. Cost is $5.
Luna Brentegani, from Rochedale South, and Roz Dickson, from Cornubia, (both pictured) are students.
Ms Dickson said she took her first ballet class in 2015 when she turned 50 and has not looked back.
“It was my childhood goal, but I couldn’t access it,” she said.
She said that since transitioning genders in 2012 she wants to keep dancing for the rest of her life to ensure she stays fit and healthy.
Ms Brentegani moved to Australia 12 years ago from her native Italy and found dance to be a way to connect with others.
“You get to meet like-minded people and find your comfort zone,” she said.
