It’s not often we’ll be granted a string of public holidays as we are right now, Easter buffing up against Anzac Day which then moves into Labour Day.
For many, it’s a time to maximise work holidays and get the family out if the house – to the beach, the countryside, wherever makes people feel more together.
It’s also a time to reflect on our identity, whether that be a bond made stronger through religious beliefs, or as we commemorate the fallen at Anzac Day services next Monday, or simply celebrate being a nation built on hard work – blood, sweat and tears.
Holidays are meant to allow us the time to think, about who we are, what we’ve become and where we’ll head.
We’re still battling Covid, something which history will see as a significant time in world history.
Today’s front page is a story which expresses some concern about the current state of the world.
Springwood RSL sub-branch president Dave Simmons also expresses a message of peace, resilience and hope. He talks about the importance of protecting our freedom, as previous generations did during world wars and conflict.
While the spread of Covid still has people concerned about crowds, this coming Monday will see thousands line the streets to share and celebrate those freedoms.
We are a multicultural community, and it is heart-warming to see masses of people proud of our history, who we’ve become and our collective desire for a future of unity.
