One of Logan’s most dangerous intersections has undergone major safety upgrades.
The intersection of Clarke, Lindenthal and Park Ridge Roads in Park Ridge is the latest of several city roads to receive funding from a national program that aims to reduce the risk of crashes at high-crash “black spots”.
Over a recent five-year period, there were 10 confirmed crashes at this particular intersection.
Sixty percent of all the occupants in the cars involved were hospitalised as a result, according to Logan City Council.
With safety improvements complete, the intersection now includes traffic lights, dedicated turning lanes, more space to reduce traffic congestion in right-turning lanes, a signalised pedestrian crossing and new intersection lighting.
New traffic islands and dedicated on-road bicycle lanes have been installed, as well as new line markings and traffic signs, and new kerbing to enhance road and verge drainage.
“As Park Ridge continues to grow, more people and cars at this intersection has led to an increase in incidents,” Logan City Council’s website says.
“The upgrade will improve safety and accommodate future traffic demands as the area continues to grow.
“We are committed to improving road safety across Logan.
“This upgrade will help deliver a safer intersection by reducing the risk of potential crashes.”
Intersecitons at Shailer Park and Chambers Flat are also receiving blackspot-funded upgrades.
The pavement of Chambers Flat Road (from Pleasant View Rd to Kenny Rd) is being sealed and new signage installed, along with new crash barriers and lighting at the bridge.
The intersection of Mandew St and Leda Drive at Shailer Park will get lights to turn right, CCTV for traffic management, a new signal for the left slip lane onto Mandew St, and adjusted pram ramps for pedestrians.
